Fall 2024
Leadership
This semester I worked as the Director of Underwriting for the WICB and competed at the Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Lead
Ithaca College Men's Crew
This fall my boats competed at the Head of Fish Regatta and we won our 2V eight race and got second place in the open four category! It was our only race of the fall season and it was so much fun to compete in Saratoga Springs. Overall, our program performed really well at this race it was the first time our team had brought home fish heads (for winning a race category) in a decade. My goal this semester was to help the underclassmen coxswains understand how our boathouse works and the culture we want to have on the team as I prepare to graduate. We have two senior coxswains and just one junior who will be here next year so it's been really important for me to be an approachable and helpful teammate for anyone who might have questions about how we do our jobs on the team.
Leadership Academy
This semester our two sessions were mainly about putting all of leadership classroom training into practice as seniors of our team. Greg Shelley taught two modules this semester that talked about being a team manager and a team climate changer. In the sessions, we talk with athletes on other IC varsity sports and we had really productive conversations about where are teams were at and how as seniors we can best help our teams suceeed. I really enjoyed hearing other athletes talk about their teams and we got to compare and contrast strategies and goals and I felt I gained good insights from our leadership sessions. We also got to reflect on what type of leader we were and were pushed to try to push ourselves out of our comfort zone and be a vocal leader in addition to leading by example.

WICB Director of Underwriting and DJ
I hosted the Friday Morning Drive this semester as a DJ in addition to picking up a few Thanksgiving Break shifts. I worked with news and sportscasters during the shift and trained multiple new DJs at the beginning of the semester. In my new position as Director of Underwriting, I've been maintaining our relationships with businesses who sponsor the station, writing and delivering contracts and invoices and reaching out to new companies and organizations to see if they are interested in sponsoring. Similarly to my goal as a senior coxswain to help the the people taking my job once I graduate this year, my main goal has been making this underwriting position as clear and streamlined as possible by writing a new handbook, updating our media guide and keeping neat and up-to-date records for whoever takes this job next year.

Porchfest Volunteer
This was my second year volunteering at Porchfest and I had so much fun helping keep the streets clear at my designated section of the streets where artists were performing. I got to interact with bands, people who lived in the neighborhood hosting Porchfest and community members attending the festival. I tried to make sure I was being super friendly and offering to help when people seemed a bit confused as to where they needed to go to hear their favorite bands. I had another volunteer working with me for the second half of my volunteering shift and it was a really great experience to meet a new person and chat for acouple of hours. He was actually visiting Ithaca and thought that volunteering would be a great way to contribute to helping while still getting to experience Porchfest and I really admired that. He was friendly and we worked together to move barricades when needed, redirect traffic and assist festival-goers.

Leading Self: Racial Microagressions
This session was led by Cliff-Simon Vital, Associate Director, BIPOC Unity Center at Ithaca College, and it was just attended by me and one other student which led to a really good conversation between the three of us. Cliff-Simon first defined the term and talked about how microagressions generally can impact people of many identities. The second half of the conversation was about how names are really important and that it's critical we learn others' names and how to say them correctly because names have meaning, history and importance and it's insensitive to ignore that and not learn how to say someone's name correctly. I thought the presentation was really strong and I enjoyed getting to talk about my family's history and my name and hear about other's in the session.

Leading Self: Car Basics
I made sure I signed up for this SLI because I wanted to make sure I knew what was necessary to be a responsible car owner. I've been driving since highschool but now that I have a car at college I'm much more responsible for the care and upkeep of the car and I'm in charge of getting it's serviced, keeping it clean, and being aware of the car's wear and tear etc. In the SLI we talked about what we should keep in our car in case of emergency and learned about what things are underneath the hood of the car. I thought the most helpful part of the SLI was learning how to change a flat tire and the information about cars and how to fix simple problems was really important as I get ready to graduate and possibly buy my own car in the coming months.

Leading Self: All-Star Interviewing
This was another SLI I really wanted to take because I'm graduating and apply for jobs right now. I've had a handful of interviews in the past for jobs and internships but hearing a breakdown of the do's and don't of interviewing from Jonathan
Chalmers at the Career Center was a really good experience. We learned about what questions we might be asked and how to shape and talk about our experiences either at IC or in job positions to put ourselves in the best light possible.
